Paul Calico was recently appointed Chairman of the Volunteer Lawyers Project ("VLP"), an organization consisting of Cincinnati-area attorneys who work together to provide quality legal services to low-income citizens in our community. Paul has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with the VLP, previously having served as President, Chair of the Recruitment Committee, and a Board member.


Also, Paul will be speaking at a National Business Institute seminar entitled Construction Defect Litigation from A to Z on the topic of Resolving Construction Defect Issues Through Alternative Dispute Resolution. He will also be a featured speaker at a Cincinnati Bar Association program on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and will be on the faculty of an Ohio Labor and Employment Law Institute seminar entitled Advanced Employment Law. His presentation will be on Hiring and Firing Employees.


Claudia Allen will participate in a panel discussion on 401(k) plans at an event sponsored by Barnes, Dennig & Co., Ltd. at the Cintas Center of Xavier University. Claudia will also participate in the Midwest Regional Bankruptcy Seminar in August in a panel discussion of employee-related issues, concentrating on what happens to qualified retirement plans when sponsors go through bankruptcy.


The Board of Trustees recently appointed Jason Tonne to the Colerain Township Economic Development Committee. The newly formed Committee will review the Township's current economic development efforts and recommend strategies to increase economic development in the community. Jason was also elected by the Colerain Board of Zoning Appeals to serve as Chairman of the Board for 2009.


Philomena Ashdown was recognized as a runner-up of the 2008 Woman of the Year Award by Cincy Chic, an on-line lifestyle publication for women in the Greater Cincinnati area. This Award actively celebrates the Cincy Chic mission of supporting, informing, and inspiring women in Greater Cincinnati, and recognizes local females who strive for professional and personal excellence, uplift the community, and inspire other women. Fifteen professional women were honored for their involvement in the Cincinnati community this year.

Bill Woods was recently named as President Elect of the Covington, Kentucky Rotary Club for the 2009-2010 year, and will become President for the 2010-2011 year. He was also made a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International. Individuals are recognized as Paul Harris Fellows for making exceptional contributions to Rotary, their local communities, and the International community.

The shareholders of the firm elected James G. Heldman as President, succeeding William V. Strauss who held the position for 15 years. Mr. Strauss was elected Chairman.

Marshall K. Doskers, William K. Flynn, Pete A. Smith, and Richard S. Wayne were elected to the Board of Directors. Paul B. Calico was named Chair of the Management Committee.
